Overview
========

This file describes the Intel(R) PROSet for Linux* utility, version 1.8.x.

Intel PROSet for Linux is a reporting and configuration tool for Intel(R)
PRO LAN adapters (10/100 and 1000) and Intel Advanced Network Services
(iANS). It works with the Intel e100, e1000, and iANS drivers on Intel
32-bit architectures running Linux.

Prerequisites
=============

The following components must be installed in order to use Intel PROSet for
Linux:

  - Linux 2.4.x kernel

  - Any combination of the following Intel adapter drivers:

      - e100 version 2.2.x and higher
      - e1000 version 5.0.x and higher
      - iANS version 2.4.x and higher

    The latest drivers are available on the Intel website at:
    http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/support_intel.asp.

    NOTE: The non-Intel driver eepro100 must not be loaded on the managed
          machine.

  - libqt-mt.so.2 package

    In Red Hat AS 2.1, the library is provided by "qt"
    In Red Hat 7.3 and 8.0, the library is provided by "qt2"

  - libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 package. Installed by default in Red Hat 7.3
    and later.

  - openssl* 0.9.6b or higher security package.

      NOTE: openssl is installed with Red Hat* Linux 7.2 and above. If the
            package is already installed, make sure the libcrypto.so.2 file
            is in /lib or any other directory in the path. If it is not
            installed, see the instructions below for creating
            libcrypto.so.2.

            If you do not have openssl installed, download the package from
            http://www.openssl.org and configure openssl with 'config
            shared' to create the libcrypto.so.0.9.x shared library.

            To create libcrypto.so.2 under /usr/lib, you must copy
            libcrypto.so.0.9.x to /usr/lib and create a link named
            libcrypto.so.2 to libcrypto.so.0.9.x:

                cp libcrypto.so.0.9.x /usr/lib
                cd /usr/lib
                ln -s libcrypto.so.0.9.x libcrypto.so.2

Installation
============

The following files are required to run PROSet for Linux:

   xprocfg-x.x.x.tar.gz
   procfgd-x.x.x.tar.gz
   libxerces-c1_6_0.tar.gz

Copy the files listed above to a directory of your choice. x.x.x designates
the version number.

1. From the directory where you have copied the tar files, untar the
    xprocfg-x.x.x.tar.gz file:

       tar xzf xprocfg-x.x.x.tar.gz

    The xprocfg-x.x.x directory should appear.

2. Change to the xprocfg-x.x.x directory:

       cd xprocfg-x.x.x

3.  Enter:

       ./INSTALL

4. Repeat these steps for the procfgd-x.x.x.tar.gz tar file. In the
    instructions above, replace xprocfg with procfgd.

    For additional information and installation instructions for procfgd,
    see the readme included with the procfgd tar file.

To Unistall
============

1.  To uninstall enter
        ./UNINSTALL

    The uninstall script will remove all files installed by INSTALL script.

Running the Utility
===================

To run the Intel PROSet for Linux Utility:

1.  Log in as root.

2. Run the PROCfgd server, if it is not already running:

       procfgd

3.  Run the utility:

       xprocfg

    The utility looks for the procfgd server on the default port, 58086. If
    you have chosen to run the server on a different port (by using the -p
    option for the server), you must specify this port on the command line
    when running the utility by using the -p option. For example:

       xprocfg -p 10000
