Review basic adapter information

The General tab contains a description of the adapter selected in the Network Component Tree, as well as the following information about the adapter.

Ethernet Address The 12-digit hexadecimal node address of this adapter, also called a MAC address.
Part Number The Intel® part number of this adapter.
IP Address If using the IPv4 protocol, the TCP/IP address of this adapter.
Intel PROSet does not display IPv6 addresses at this time.
Network Driver Status Indicates if the Intel network driver is loaded or not loaded for the currently selected adapter.
Network Status Indicates the link, speed, and duplex status of the selected adapter. The fields in the Network Status group box vary by adapter.
  • Link LED: On indicates the adapter cable is connected to a valid hub or switch port; Off indicates no link.

  • Speed: The speed listed here (1000, 100, or 10) indicates the speed the adapter is linked at.

  • Activity LED: Flashes when the adapter is connected to a network with activity; Off indicates no activity or disconnected cable.

  • Duplex: Full Duplex indicates the adapter is sending and receiving traffic simultaneously; Half Duplex indicates that at any time the adapter is sending or receiving (traffic is not sent and received simultaneously).

Adapter Details Provides more detailed information about the adapter.
Identify Adapter Allows you to identify an adapter by blinking its LEDs.
Test Cable The Test Cable button appears on the General tab for certain adapters.
