Create a VLAN

A VLAN is a logical grouping of adapters configured to enhance network security and reduce the size of broadcast domains. There is a limit of 64 VLANs per server.

To create a VLAN:

  1. In the Network Component Tree, right-click on Team Listing or Non-Teamed Adapter Listing.

  2. Click Add VLAN.
The Add New VLAN dialog box appears.

  3. In the VLAN ID field, type the number of the VLAN assigned to the adapter. The VLAN ID must match the VLAN ID configured on the switch. Valid Range: 1 - 4094.

NOTE: VLAN numbers 0 and 1 are often reserved. Check your switch documentation for details.

  4. In the VLAN Name field, type a label for the VLAN. For example, Marketing or Engineering. The name does not have to match the name on other network devices; it is for identification purposes only.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Click Apply.

Once you have configured a VLAN, a VLAN listing appears in the Network Component Tree.

The adapter is now configured to be a VLAN member. After setting up the adapter to be a VLAN member, make sure to complete VLAN configuration by setting up other network devices with appropriate VLAN information.
