Adapter Fault Tolerance is a team of two or more adapters configured to provide a backup network connection. In the case of hub or switch port, cable, or adapter failure, the computer maintains uninterrupted network performance.
Adapter Fault Tolerance teams have a primary adapter and a backup, or secondary, adapter. During normal operation, only the primary adapter transmits traffic. If the primary adapter or the link to the primary adapter fails, the secondary adapter automatically takes over.
Spanning Tree must be disabled if you are using Adapter Fault Tolerance.
Adapter Fault Tolerance teams are compatible with the following:
| Adapter type | Requires one Intel® server adapter to be a member of the team |
| Adapter speed | Can be mixed, such as one adapter linked at 100 Mbps and one running at 1000 Mbps |
| Network configuration | All adapters must be connected to the same switch. Spanning Tree must be disabled |
| Protocols | All |
