About Teaming

A team is a group of adapters configured to provide increased throughput and fault tolerance. When a team is created, a Team listing appears in the Network Component Tree. Under this listing, a Member Adapters folder is created. The Member Adapters folder contains a Teamed adapter listing for each adapter in that team.

See Team types for a list of teaming modes available in Intel®  PROSet.

Use the following topics to configure teams with Intel PROSet:

Can you use adapters from other vendors in a team?

You can create a multi-vendor team (MVT) of adapters for any teaming mode. To create a multi-vendor team, you must have at least one Intel server adapter in the team.

MVT is compatible with:

Adapter type Check the Network Component Tree to see which adapters in your system are compatible.
Adapter speed Check the requirements of the teaming mode.

NOTE: If you include adapters with different speed capabilities, the team will operate at the lowest common speed.

NOTE: If team members are part of a VLAN, Intel PROSet does not support multi-vendor teaming.

How many teams can you set up on a computer?

The number of teams configured on any computer varies depending on the computer's hardware and software configuration.

What are the requirements?

The network configuration as well as the type of adapters you have installed in a computer affect which team types can be set up on the computer. Review the information on the Team Types topic for an overview of team requirements and capabilities.
